Mitzi Hightower-Teel Acts 17:28 “In Him I live, and Move and Have My Being”
Mitzi is a native Trentonian. Attended the Trenton Public School Systems which included Robbins Elementary School, Jr. # 2. known as "Hedgepeth Middle School" and Trenton Central High School.
Mitzi’s High School Highlights I recall discovering my enjoyment for athletics while in Middle School. I wasn't a competitive person but I had a passion for sports, exercising, training and a desire to develop and demonstrate my athletic ability. As I entered Trenton Central High School in 1974, I looked forward to becoming a TCHS Cheerleader. I enjoyed the Cheerleading tryout process, which made my entering High School experience much more exciting. The Tryouts were AMAZING but I recall those days filled with jitters as I "repeatedly" checked the Girls Gym locker room door awaiting for the posted team list.
The 1st HIGHLIGHT of the beginning of my High School experience was to finally see the posted list and to see my name listed at the top! Not only did I make the team, I was listed as the Captain of the 1974 TCHS JV CHEERLEADING TEAM... WOW! This would be my first experience of participating in a team sport with a group of individuals working together for a common goal "TEAM SPIRIT... to energize, motivate and rally our team to play better and to boost the overall morale of our team and audience. The following two years were exciting and Highlights as well. My Junior year experience on the Varsity squad and Senior year as Captain of the Varsity Squad. Another HIGHLIGHT while at Trenton Central High School was my three year Track Team experience. My freshman year I joined the Track team to stay physically active which would prepare me for the next cheerleading season. Not knowing that I would enjoy running and become pretty skillful at it. My High School sporting activities set the atmosphere for my college experience which included many Highlights.
Mitzi attended Elizabeth City State University 1976-1980. Cheerleading Team served as Captain for 4 years. Track Team 4 years served as Captain for 2 years. Placed 7th out of 26 runners in the CIAA Tournament in the 800 yd run. Mitzi was also very active with the ECSU Gymnastic Team. Mitzi was member of Swing Phi Swing Social Fellowship Inc. and elected the 1979 Miss Swing Phi Swing. Mitzi graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education and Health. Later earned her Master Degree with Honors "Cum Laude" In Educational Leadership and Administration with Principal Licensure from Jones International University.
Mitzi’s love of children was reflected in her job as a teacher at the Dunn Middle School for 37 years. While at Dunn, Mitzi also served as the Head Cheerleader Coach, the Girls and Boys Track Team Coach, Established The Dunn Dance Group and Modeling Team which included over 40 students each year and has coached an award winning Double Dutch Team. Mitzi is now a proud Retiree from the Trenton School District.
Mitzi has been teaching the importance of exercise and physical fitness over 40 years and is the owner of Shape It by Mitzi, which focuses on physical fitness for the body, mind, heart and soul. Shape It By Mitzi is a Total Body Fitness Program located at Dream Makers Dance Studios in Lawrence Twp. NJ. Mitzi is a Licensed Personal Fitness Trainer and is Certified to teach all types of the Fitness classes that include Step and Funk Aerobics, ZUMBA, Kick-Boxing, Stride, Shawn T- INSANITY, Fierce4 Fitness, PIYO and is also a Certified Beachbody Live 2B Mindset Nutritionist Mentor. Mitzi created her own fitness classes which include Funky Step, Dance and Praise Fitness, Pump with Funk, Stick Fitness, Chair Fitness and weight resistance routines. Mitzi is also the CEO of YOUR BODY YOUR TEMPLE FITNESS "YBYT" a Gospel Fitness Program for RETIREES which is held every Thursday morning at Shiloh Baptist Church. Since COVID 19 shut down all businesses SHAPE-IT BY MITZI FITNESS Business has been closed since March 16, 2020 and the YBYT FITNESS Sessions are livestreamed and aired on Shiloh Trenton Facebook Live and YouTube Shiloh Trenton Live. Mitzi released her 1st Gospel Fitness Video MITZI'S CARDIO PRAISE FITNESS PARTY and her own designed SHAPE-IT & YBYT Fitness Clothing and Accessories. Mitzi's accomplishments include: 1995 Governor’s Teacher of the year, 2001 All Saints Day honoree, 2003 Shiloh Women's Emphasis Season Honoree, 1998 Trenton High School Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee, 2003 City of Trenton Black Image Award for Performing Arts, Boreatta Honoree for Performing Arts, 2008 Zeta Phi Beta Woman of The Year and a Trenton Fortitude Corporation 501c3 "Trenton Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority INC. “Health and Fitness Community-Award Honoree” Mitzi was a guest exercise instructor on the Dr. Oz Show, selected as a Fierce 4 Fitness Instructor at the 2013 National Aerobic Convention to assist Janis Saffell and Pepper Von who are International Fitness Celebrities and was the Trivia Dancer on The Kelly and Michael National Television Show aired live on ABC. Instructed the Warm-up for many 5K Cancer run/walk and other Cancer events, the ZUMBA instructor for the AKA Natural Hair Care Expo. The ZUMBA Fitness Instructor for the 2020 Real Men Cook Event hosted by the AKA’s & Phi Beta Sigma’s. Mitzi ran a Half-Marathon (13miles, 193 yards or 21.1 kilometers) In the New Jersey Marathon Festival at the shore in Long Branch NJ. Benefit children’s charities and World Hepatitis Awareness in partnership with BOSCO’S & BUDDIES. For the past nine years Mitzi has been the Praise Dancer on the Festival At Sea African American Cruise as well as Modeled for the Cruise Fashion Shows. 2019 Athletic Hall of Fame Honoree. Mitzi was casted in the "2019" Play Production "A CHRISTMAS CAROL" at the McCarter Theater which featured two shows per day during Dec. 10th thru Dec. 29th.
Mitzi is also a DMDS Board Member and an active member of the NJ ZURI Graduate Chapter of Swing Phi Swing Social Fellowship Inc.

Mitzi is an very active member of Shiloh Baptist Church, the Church on the Hill. Where the Word of God is Preached with the Power of the Holy Spirit. Mitzi is the Director of the Liturgy Praise and Worship Liturgical Praise Dance Ministry. Chair of Communication, Co-Chair of the Trustee Aide Ministry, a member of the Women's Council, the Hospitality Ministry, The Official Joint & Executive Board.
